Spectrum will see P*A*S*H indie anthem legends KNIFE and STATIC bringing their flavoursome guitar driven hits while upstairs in 34B GOLDFOOT and BEN LUCID play an eclectic blend of new and old for ANYTHING GOES.

UP TO OUR HIPS DJs will be taking over Q Bar for a night of our trademark blend of punk/party/indie MEGA RAVE in a room we all know has no shortage of pool tables or make-out booths.

SEX & GLUE is back with a bang and a bandana on Friday May 15.

With all the birthdays happening this month we decided to hold a little throwback party to celebrate all things 80's, including [mostly] ourselves. Come down for our 80's party rave and pat all the birthday kids on the back. We've all done a wonderful job making it this far, especially with THE MAN always trying to get up in our shit, so we deserve a night of debaucherous excess and disastrous fashion choices.

The drinks are practically 80's prices at $4 beers and $5 spirits and the door charge is cheaper than 80's standard at $10 or $8 on a list. The party is at the very [kind of] 80's OXFORD ART FACTORY and starts at 11.45pm.

a few words from MARK C

Hello friends, a small note about the mp3 file you are about to download:

It was completed to the stage it is now towards the end of 2008 on a computer program.

The main purpose of this MIX was to take a BANGING selection of SONGS that i had been LISTENING TO at the time and put (or mix) them together in an enjoyable and friendly manner that lasted 30 or so minutes.

Upon its (almost) completion it turns out my internet at home was thoroughly incapable up uploading anything close to a file this size so nobody ended up hearing or appraising my mix in the making. Further to that evil conglomerate AXXXXXN figured out that i had ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADED a copy of their software and somehow hacked my shit from inside the extra-net and locked the program to prevent me completing the mix and achieving BLOGHOUSE SUPERSTARDOM (my personal DJ fantasy slash dream since late 2006).

Since then I had pretty much forgotten about it - partly because i didn't really think anybody would want to bother spending 34 minutes and 8 seconds listening to something like that.. THAT IS until Dan B got a hold of it afew weeks ago.

He promptly decided is was acceptable enough to get 'released' by his popular promotions company UP TO OUR HIPS and asked me to create the little macro jpg that you see above and the small portion of text that you are reading now.

Many of the SONGS are quite dated - anywhere from 17 to 300 blog years old, but that is understandable considering its history so please enjoy it for what it is.

Friday May 8 we are waging war against the cold and getting our young, supple and nubile bodies pressed up against each other in the comfort of toasty Phoenix for another installment of the EX NUNS SAGA.

Last week everyone got a little crazy under the strobe-enhanced falling foam and this next one is unlikely to be all that different. The main ingredients are the same - a pool of $5 jagerbombs from 9-11 and a shower $4.50 beers and $5 spirits till your friends are sick of you and take you home.

Getting in the way of your conversation will be the finest selection of party tunes, indie favourites, punk anthems, pop monstrosities and classics this side of your most well thought out mixtape.

Man, I'm getting itchy. It seems like an eternity since the last EX NUNS and seems about the same till the next one. I know how these things sneak up on people like us though so I'm sure before you know it Friday April 24 will be upon us and you'll be stumbling out of THE OFFICIAL EX NUNS ANZAC DAY EVE BEACH PARTY at sunrise to head down to the dawn service and disgrace yourself.

Then I imagine Today Tonight will do a report on EX NUNS and say we are corrupting the youth and Anna Coren will be having tea with your grandmother who will be talking heaps of smack on you and your mates and you'll be all like FUCK YOU GRANDMA and then she'll stab you with her father's bayonet that probably still has blood on it from 1915.

So how did it come to this? That 9-11pm period probably didn't help. $5 JAGERBOMBS for that two hour period no doubt got your night off swimmingly. With one million party favourites and punk hits over the evening we are expecting at least 20 pairs of heels to be broken leaving the dancefloor looking like no man's land after an artillery barrage.

Grandma would definitely not approve. She totally needs to chill.

The last SEX & GLUE ended up getting pretty wild. The room was already full due to the sold out Kris Roe show that went down beforehand and things were crazy at the door trying to get people in. Everyone partied till some stupid hour of the morning and then they all lost it and stormed the stage to create the ultimate 'Babe Stage Rave'. Good times all round.

We've decided we are going to start doing more 'stuff'. I seriously sit around doing NOTHING all day so I figure if I load myself up with more projects then I can start saying I did heaps at work today and that is why I deserve you to be buy me a beer.

(MARK C, OF MARK C MIX FAME)

A little while a go our mate MARK C started making a mix on some programme he probably downloaded illegally. That was probably like a year ago now. Well it seems he has finished it. By finish I mean that the makers of the programme had some precautionary measure built into it to prevent piracy and it has locked itself so he is kind of finished by default now. Regardless, we will be releasing the mix through UP TO OUR HIPS. It'll be available via free download so make sure you use up your MEGABYTES on this baby. It is actually pretty decent.


(GAY PARIS)

Next up we are going to be launching UP TO OUR HIPS BOOTLEG SERIES (name may change, I just cant think of anything else at the moment). This will basically consist of bootlegs of shows that we put on, and sometimes shows that other people put on. It should be pretty cool and first up will be GAY PARIS, YEAH BEARS and MR VENGEANCE from our birthday party last friday. You'll be able to download all of them for free from our website next week.

Now for some arts and crafts... we'll be making some 100% HANDMADE WITH LOVE UP TO OUR HIPS TOTE BAGS. Wonderfully practical, infinitely desirable, they should be available next week - depending on the turnaround of my little sweatshop slave kids.

After almost two months off, SEX + GLUE is coming to Oxford Arts on Friday April 3. We've been itching to get back into the venue, back into the party, back into the bar and back into the backroom.

It has been a year since I resigned from Hot Damn! and Destroy All Lines with the intention of dropping out of the club game and doing something useful with my life. Perhaps actually using that piece of paper I spent five years at Sydney University trying to get. Maybe finally biting the bullet and booking that flight to Europe. However the lure of drink tickets and strobe lights dragged me back into promoting and UP TO OUR HIPS was born.

What started as DJ's after bands at Spectrum grew to include SEX & GLUE at Oxford Arts, the very cool but unfortunately cursed SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN at Club 77, a bunch of great shows, some awesome releases, UTOH DJ slots, lots of plans including zines and art in the works and now we've come full circle to where I started doing all this shit three years ago with our new baby, EX NUNS down in Phoenix.

At the end of this month, or Friday March 27th to be more precise, we will be celebrating one year of UP TO OUR HIPS. Our first birthday, referred to in some circles as 'one more year DB has avoided reality and continued to shirk real responsibility while living out some ridiculous fantasy to be 18 years old forever' will be a big night, with two parties running simultaneously before culminating in one massive rage fest in Phoenix.

In Spectrum, our friends in GAY PARIS, YEAH BEARS, MR VENGEANCE and POCKETS will be playing very, very loud music. Entry is only $10 and doors are at 8pm
