After almost two months off, SEX + GLUE is coming to Oxford Arts on Friday April 3. We've been itching to get back into the venue, back into the party, back into the bar and back into the backroom.

We haven't forgotten what we are doing though - expect $4 beers and $5 spirits and the beautiful UP TO OUR HIPS DJs dropping one of the better party-punk-indie-pop mash ups that are going around these days.

We'll have some fuck off massive ridiculous artwork, the KRIS ROE after party, charming boys and untouchable girls scuffing up the new dancefloor and your heart rate close to breaking point till 5am.

It has been a year since I resigned from Hot Damn! and Destroy All Lines with the intention of dropping out of the club game and doing something useful with my life. Perhaps actually using that piece of paper I spent five years at Sydney University trying to get. Maybe finally biting the bullet and booking that flight to Europe. However the lure of drink tickets and strobe lights dragged me back into promoting and UP TO OUR HIPS was born.

What started as DJ's after bands at Spectrum grew to include SEX & GLUE at Oxford Arts, the very cool but unfortunately cursed SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN at Club 77, a bunch of great shows, some awesome releases, UTOH DJ slots, lots of plans including zines and art in the works and now we've come full circle to where I started doing all this shit three years ago with our new baby, EX NUNS down in Phoenix.

At the end of this month, or Friday March 27th to be more precise, we will be celebrating one year of UP TO OUR HIPS. Our first birthday, referred to in some circles as 'one more year DB has avoided reality and continued to shirk real responsibility while living out some ridiculous fantasy to be 18 years old forever' will be a big night, with two parties running simultaneously before culminating in one massive rage fest in Phoenix.

In Spectrum, our friends in GAY PARIS, YEAH BEARS, MR VENGEANCE and POCKETS will be playing very, very loud music. Entry is only $10 and doors are at 8pm

As you would expect we will have the UP TO OUR HIPS DJ's playing between the bands to prevent awkward silence and keeping your blood circulating so you'll be ready to dance at a moment's notice.


If seeing a bunch of bands isn't your thing, then head downstairs to Phoenix where are more CDJ inclined friends will be flicking through their cd wallets and keeping the dancefloor busy. We open the doors for EX NUNS at 9pm with that ridiculous JAGERBOMB SPECIAL going till 11pm.

Between 9 and 11pm you can pick up four Jagerbombs for only $20. $5 a piece. That is insane, and the perfect way to get your evening started.

Entry $10 or FREE if you have a stamp from paying to see the bands.

The EX NUNS PARTY will be going till 5 or 6am, so basically when the leather cleaner catches up to everyone. The drinks are cheap all night, $4.50 beers and $5 spirits.

This Saturday, PASH will be running across Spectrum, Q Bar and 34B.

UP TO OUR HIPS DJS will be taking control of Q BAR and dropping our unique brand of punk/indie/party mega jams.

Spectrum will feature 'indie anthems' with DJ's Knife and Static.

34B is hosting DISCO SUCKS with ELF and the newly bald BEN LUCID.

the scare - no money - free download

Late last year, THE SCARE went into the studio to record their second LP with some dude called Daniel Johns from some band called Silverchair. Fast forward a few months, with some sold out shows and Big Day Out dates under their belts, the record is finished.

It is really, really good. Like, proper good.

'Ooze Voodoo' is slated to come out mid-year or so, but in the spirit of the first single 'No Money' we have a free download of it for you. As you can imagine the song is basically about being mad poor and a massive piece of shit which I'm sure most of us can relate to (well, I know I certainly can). The band has, for lack of a better word, matured since their last record Chivalry and I think that people will be pleasantly surprised with the direction they've taken.

Get down to Phoenix this Friday for EX NUNS. We're building it from the bottom this week with a more chill vibe early and heading to the punk/party/indie mega rave you've come to know and love.

No one really knows what to expect but things are bound to get a slightly ridiculous with four Jagerbombs for $20 from 9-11, $4.50 beers and $5 spirits all night. Strong possibility of everyone taking their clothes off.
